Guest speaker: blooms all season long
Debbie Morris spoke at our October meeting. She is the former owner of Blue Mountain Nursery. Her topic was how to keep flower beds blooming all season long.
A few of her tips:
- Plant spring bulbs in the fall, with room between them for early spring plants
- Start with primula and pansies, then add annuals after the last frost
- Put the tallest plants in the middle or back of a bed and the lowest at the edges
- Grow spreaders like dahlias, canna lilies, and mint in pots
- Mulch your beds and fertilize often in July and August
- Cut spent flowers below the seed pod to get more blooms.
The newsletter has her full notes, including pests to watch for, plants for cut flowers, and how she overwinters roses.
Elections on November 3
Club elections take place at the November meeting. Several positions need someone to step forward, including president, tour coordinator, speaker coordinator, and 100th year activities. Dianne would also like to step down from the newsletter or share the job.
Please consider putting your name forward for a program or for the executive. We need our members to keep the club alive and thriving.

Our 100th year in 2027
The club turns 100 in 2027. Plans include new plantings and irrigation for the museum and art gallery garden. The club also plans a summer event for current and former members, likely in June at the Memorial Park gazebo.
Christmas social on December 1
The Christmas social takes the place of the December meeting. Bring a dish that feeds six, plus your own plate and cutlery. Guests are always welcome.
Next meeting
Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 6:30 pm, at St. James Anglican Church Hall in Armstrong. Dan and Kat Saxton of Pilgrim’s Produce will speak about their farm.
